Diamond wasn't always a star. Born to penniless parents who longed for a strong, healthy son, she was a dainty, delicate daughter - and a bitter disappointment. Discovering an extraordinary gift for acrobatics, Diamond uses her talent to earn a few pennies, but brings shame on her family. When a mysterious, cruel-eyed stranger spots her performing, Diamond is sold - and is taken to become an acrobat at Tanglefield's Travelling Circus. The crowds adore Diamond, but life behind the velvet curtains is far from glamorous. Her wicked master forces Diamond to attempt ever more daring tricks, until she is terrified to step into the ring.

This book has a twist and it is mixed between sorrow, friendship, courage and punishment. Before Diamond can say bye to her Dad, he sold her for five guineas to Mister Beppo who owns a circus. Diamond then becomes the star of the show, will she be able to keep it up? The acrobats lead her in the right direction, but one is leading in the wrong direction. Diamond has a minimum chance of seeing her father again. I loved Diamond, it made me want to cry, imagine that you’re getting whipped, you can feel it BURN on your back as if Mister is shouting as you and dripping in pool of sweat.
