This book got me back into reading after almost a decade hiatus. It tells the fictional story of King Arthur in a gritty "realistic" way. Set in grim post-Roman Britain during the Saxon invasions, the tale is far from the romanticised chivalric tales of yore. Many of the characters will surprise you, for instance Merlin is not a wise wizard but an elusive, amoral yet charismatic Druid who's obsessed with removing the newly emerging Christian influence from Britain. I won't say any more for fear of spoilers but suffice to say this book (and series) is a banger, 10/10 would recommend.
