The sites listed here give access to a number of free resources that are adopting the new open-access model for making scholarly work available within the academic community.

Open Access

Endnote Click (formerly Kopernia)
EndNote Click works on thousands of academic websites to get you full-text PDFs, whether you are on or off campus.
It is a plug-in that install to Microsoft Edge and it will search for an open access article (if it exists).

OA.Works (formerly Open Access Button)
Enabling you to locate free research and/or alternative copies of research that has been peer-reviewed and been published in journals that need to be paid for. If a free copy is not available, OpenAccessButton will try to get one, often by contacting the author directly. You set up your own account and get your own Open Access Button.
An open database of 22,760,166 free scholarly articles.

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
This service covers free, full-text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals in all subjects and languages. There are some 5,175 journals in the directory (2,141 of whichare searchable at article level) comprising some 417,585 articles.

Bristol University Press & Policy Press: Open Access
Predominantly a social science publisher, but there may be titles amongst their Business & Management or Sociology offerings that could be useful.

Cambridge Core Open Access Journals
44 journals from Cambridge University Press. Most are not relevant to us, but there are a number on psychiatry which might be useful for some research papers.

Humanities Digital Library
The Humanities Digital Library is the open access library and catalogue for books published by the School of Advanced Study, University of London.

JSTOR Open Access content
Journal articles, ebooks, community collections, research reports, and 1.3 million freely accessible images, videos, documents, and audio files.

Open Humanities Press
An international open access publishing collective in critical and cultural theory. The collection is small at present but destined to grow. 


CORE (formerly OpenDOAR)
Access to 83 million+ open-access research papers.

Searches the content of over 1000 repositories worldwide.

OpenAIRE (Open Access Infrastructure for Research in Europe)
European research output in 17.5 million publications.

Open Research Online
The Open University's repository of research publications and other research outputs. It is an Open Access resource that can be searched and browsed freely by members of the public

Policy Commons   
Over 2.3 million documents from thousands of IGOs, NGOs, research centers and think tanks.Free access until the end of December 2020. The individual plan thereafter may still be free.
